Nigerians and other telecom customers within Nigeria executed almost 26 billion text messages locally in 2022, according to data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in its ‘2022 Subscriber/Network Data Annual Report.
According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in its recently released ‘2022 Subscriber/Network Data Annual Report,’ Nigerians and other telecommunication users within the country exchanged more than 25.93 billion text messages domestically during 2022.
The report unveiled a substantial 28.82 percent increase in the total volume of text messages sent and received compared to the previous year.
MTN tops in text messages exchanged
The data from the report showcased that approximately 14.09 billion SMS messages were sent, while around 11.84 billion were received within the same period.
MTN emerged as the leading contributor in this domain, registering the highest count of text messages exchanged.
The report indicated, “In 2022, MTN recorded the highest count of SMS received and sent, which stood at 8,738,690,150 and 8,323,722,485, respectively.”
Furthermore, the report disclosed that international SMS sent as of December 2022 numbered 59,571,547, while the total received SMS amounted to 459,329,782.
In addition to these findings, it was previously reported that Nigerians and telecom consumers in the country expended N3.33 trillion on various telecom services in 2022, encompassing calls, data, SMS, and other services.
