The Nigerian government has urged prudence and reduced governance costs among its officials while impressing the need of a culture of discipline and efficient utilisation of government’s resources at all levels. The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo, gave the advice on Wednesday, when a delegation from the Ministry of Finance, Nasarawa State, visited him.
Mr. Okokon Udo, the Permanent Secretary for Special Duties at the Federal Ministry of Finance, has emphasized the importance of reducing expenses in government operations.
The ministry’s Director of Press & Public Relations, Stephen Kilebi, released a statement on Wednesday conveying Udo’s viewpoint.
Finance ministry official highlights creation of efficiency unit
According to the statement, Udo highlighted the challenge faced by governments at all levels due to limited economic resources despite increasing citizen needs.
To address this, he mentioned the creation of an efficiency unit by the Federal Government aimed at curbing wastefulness, plugging leaks, and trimming costs across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Udo made these remarks during a study tour by a delegation from the Nasarawa State Ministry of Finance, led by Dr. Agot James. Udo underlined that a goal-oriented economy should utilize all available economic tools to achieve its objectives.
The statement also mentioned the establishment of the Efficiency Unit by the Federal Government to prudently manage resources for a stronger economy.
Udo urged government officials to adopt an efficiency mindset and utilize public resources in a more productive manner.
