Biodun Oyebanji, a former secretary to the state government (SSG) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the recently concluded Ekiti State Governorship election, has been proclaimed the winner.
The returning officer for the poll, Kayode Oyebode, revealed this in the early hours of Sunday.
According to him, the APC received 187,057 votes in 15 of the state’s 16 local government areas.
How did the APC win the state?
187,057 people voted for Oyebanji.
Mr Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party, his closest rival, received 82,211 votes.
Bisi Kolawole, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, received 67,457 votes. Kolawole won his LGA, Efon, with 6,303 votes against APC’s 4,012 votes.
Supporters of the APC are overjoyed.
According to reports, members of the state’s ruling party and locals flocked to the streets late at night to celebrate the triumph.
Residents in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area, where Oyebanji is from, have also begun celebrating their kinsman’s election triumph.
As the results were reported by the individual local government Returning Officers, locals in Ikere-Ekiti, where Oyebanji’s running partner, Mrs Monitade Afuye, came from, began cheering as well.
