(NIGERIA) – Mr. Olukayode Pitan, the Chief Executive of Nigeria’s Bank of Industry (BoI), has been honored with the Special African Banking Leadership Commendation Award.
This prestigious accolade was presented to him during the 9th International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL), held alongside the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the New York Hilton Midtown, USA, on September 21, 2023.
The event’s theme was “African-Caribbean Cooperation and Today’s Geopolitics.”

The award recognizes Mr. Pitan’s outstanding contributions to leadership and the advancement of Nigeria’s industrial sector.
With over 30 years of experience in various financial services sectors, including banking and capital markets, Mr. Pitan serves as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry, Nigeria’s oldest and largest development finance institution.
Under his leadership, the Bank of Industry has played a pivotal role in transforming Nigeria’s industrial landscape by offering affordable long-term financing and counter-cyclical loans across diverse sectors of the country’s economy.
Over the past five years, Mr. Pitan has spearheaded numerous innovative transactions in both the Nigerian and international financial markets, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic development.
During his tenure, the Bank of Industry successfully raised approximately $5 billion from the international market through syndications and the bond market.
The bank, under his guidance, has consistently championed financial inclusion, supporting the expansion of over 3 million enterprises and generating over 7 million jobs for the Nigerian population.
