Despite the USA and UK leading the list, Australia has consistently been a sought-after target for such attacks.
Flashpoint’s July Cyber Threat Intelligence Index revealed a total of 515 ransomware attacks worldwide during that month alone.
To mitigate these threats, experts recommend that Australian businesses focus on enhancing their threat readiness and response plans.
Ransomware attacks involve criminals encrypting digital content and demanding a ransom, often payable in cryptocurrencies, to restore access.
Such attacks have impacted various sectors, including finance, healthcare, and government agencies. Prominent ransomware group Clop was responsible for nearly a third of these attacks in July.
