Mega petrol retailer, Ampol has unveiled a partnership contract with United States-based hydrogen fuel provider, OneH2 to offer a refuelling solution in Australia. One of the unique selling point of this deal entails more focus on back-to-base hydrogen operations, and the program will primarily
benefit operators of heavy transport vehicles early on.
Australia’s largest petrol retailer, Ampol, has formed a partnership with US company OneH2 to accelerate the integration of hydrogen fuel into the Australian market and reduce emissions from heavy transportation.
This move follows BP’s recent opening of the first hydrogen refuelling facility at an Australian service station.
Ampol’s partnership aims to drive greener transportation adoption in Australia
Ampol’s new partnership aims to promote the adoption of greener transportation options in Australia and boost confidence in investing in hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Brent Merrick, Ampol’s International and New Business Executive General Manager, emphasized the pivotal role of hydrogen in emissions reduction across Australia’s transportation and energy sectors.
He noted that early adoption of hydrogen technology is expected in heavy vehicle fleets, thanks to short refuelling times and extended ranges compared to current battery electric alternatives.
OneH2’s CEO, Paul Dawson, highlighted the company’s expertise in hydrogen transport solutions and its eight years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and deploying hydrogen equipment in the US.
He expressed confidence in accelerating the adoption of hydrogen as a transport fuel in Australia.
This collaboration aligns with the recommendations of a recent CSIRO report on hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, which urged energy providers to intensify efforts to implement the technology and governments to establish policies and standards for refuelling equipment.
The Australian government is also reviewing its National Hydrogen Strategy with the goal of becoming a global hydrogen leader by 2030.
